continuing education: To stay current on information regarding protecting and advocating for children, CASA volunteers are asked to acquire 12 hours of continuing education each year. As many of you may know, our CASA program will periodically offer trainings as well as pass along community trainings that we hope will be of interest to you. Click here to access our online calendar to view upcoming CASA trainings and events.
Continuing education can also be done online through Arizona CASA. There are a variety of topics to choose from and the courses are either 30 or 60 minutes in duration followed by a short exam. After submitting an exam, you will receive a confirmation email within 5 business days that includes a copy of the exam for your records. Arlene should also be sent a confirmation so that she can log your training hours. To access this online training opportunity, click here.
We have also recently uncovered another website offering continuing education opportunities for CASA volunteers. FosterParentCollege.com has been approved by National CASA and has over 25 different courses covering a wide range of issues. Each online course includes a 30-40 minute presentation, a review questionnaire, and printable handouts. Most courses cost $10 - if this is a financial hardship, you can apply for scholarships through Sue Baker; however, these scholarships are limited. To view the website and a list of course, click here.
CASA Conferences: Each year, Washington State CASA and National CASA host conferences to provide continuing education on the issues of child abuse and neglect. The 2010 Washington State CASA Conference will be held in Bellevue on October 9th. Be sure to mark your calendars!
